🔵 HOW TO PREPARE FOR A MUSIC VIDEO SHOOT

Why it Matters:
A well-planned music video can elevate your brand, attract new fans, and create valuable promotional content. Without preparation, you risk delays, extra costs, and a subpar final product.

Step 1: Define Your Vision & Budget

  • Decide on the concept—performance-based, storytelling, abstract?
  • Set a realistic budget (location, crew, equipment, outfits, etc.).
  • Create a mood board with inspiration for lighting, colors, and aesthetics.

Step 2: Choose the Right Team

  • Hire a director and videographer experienced in music videos.
  • If on a budget, collaborate with film students or use a high-quality smartphone setup.
  • Assign roles (editor, stylist, extras, etc.) in advance.

Step 3: Lock in Locations & Permits

  • Choose locations that fit your song’s mood and message.
  • Get permits if shooting in public places.
  • Scout locations beforehand to check for lighting, sound issues, and access.

Step 4: Plan Your Wardrobe & Props

  • Wear outfits that match your brand and song vibe.
  • Avoid heavy patterns or logos unless intentional.
  • Bring backup clothing in case of wardrobe issues.

Step 5: Rehearse & Prepare Performance Details

  • Practice lip-syncing to the track in different energy levels and expressions.
  • If dancing or acting, rehearse choreography beforehand.
  • Get comfortable performing in front of a camera—it’s different from live shows!

Step 6: Pack Essentials for the Shoot

✅ Music playback device (for syncing).
✅ Extra batteries & chargers.
✅ Snacks, water, and comfortable shoes.
✅ Makeup & touch-up kit.

Step 7: Stay Flexible & Professional On Set

  • Arrive on time and stick to the schedule.
  • Stay open to director’s suggestions for better shots.
  • Keep the energy high—the camera picks up everything!

Pro Tip:

Film extra footage (close-ups, slow-motion shots) to give the editor more options in post-production.
