🔵 HOW TO HANDLE A LAST MINUTE GIG LIKE A PRO

Why it Matters:
Getting a last-minute gig can be a great opportunity, but without the right preparation, it can turn into a stressful experience. Here’s how to pull it off smoothly.

Step 1: Confirm the Key Details ASAP

  • Venue name & location – double-check directions.
  • Set length & start time – know how long you're playing.
  • PA system & equipment – find out if you need to bring mics, cables, or a mixer.
  • Payment terms – agree on your fee (if applicable).

Step 2: Choose & Organize Your Setlist Quickly

  • Pick songs you know well—avoid anything under-rehearsed.
  • Balance high-energy and slower songs to keep the crowd engaged.
  • Write out or print your setlist and have a backup on your phone.

Step 3: Pack Smart & Efficiently

  • Essentials checklist:
âś… Instruments & cables (bring spares)
âś… Mic & stand (if needed)
âś… In-ear monitors (IEMs) or earplugs
âś… Merch & business cards (if selling or promoting)

Step 4: Do a Quick but Effective Soundcheck

  • Arrive early if possible.
  • Test vocals & instruments—get a feel for stage monitors.
  • Communicate clearly with the sound engineer for any mix adjustments.

Step 5: Stay Calm & Own the Stage

  • Engage the crowd, even if you’re unfamiliar with the venue.
  • If performing solo, introduce yourself confidently and connect with the audience.
  • If with a band, signal transitions clearly to keep things smooth.

Step 6: Follow Up After the Show

  • Thank the venue staff & organizer—it increases your chances of future bookings.
  • Post a recap on social media and tag the venue.
  • Collect emails/socials from new fans to keep the momentum going.

Pro Tip:

Keep a “gig bag” pre-packed with all your essentials so you’re always ready for unexpected performance opportunities.
